The three members of Innovative Tuning’s 2013 race team competing in Canadian Sport Compact Series (CSCS) competition headed north for the first round of the CSCS championship season 5AM Sunday morning under threat of rain. As the team drew closer to Toronto Motorsports Park the skies cleared, though the torrential rain of the day before left the facility saturated. With green tracks, expectations were low for fast times on the road course and running consistent times on drag strip would be tough, but against all odds the Innovative Tuning race team pulled off an unprecedented sweep of the top spots on on the road course and drag strip and broke a few records on the way.

The drag strip was restricted to 1/8 mile passes and the road course was slicker than usual after the heavy rain. On the drag strip the Super Street cars were the class of the field, running an index of 6.35 seconds. Jason’s Innovative Tuning built and tuned drag Subaru went 6.50 on it’s first practice pass of the year, followed by a “perfect” 6.35 pass to make him the number one qualifier. Showing everyone there were no cobwebs on his driving skills, Jason went rounds and won the event convincingly, then picked up his 2012 season champion plaque at the awards ceremony.

On the road course Mike Harvey was ready to defend his 2012 season championship in Super Street AWD class. With new tires, prototype front brake kit and other tweaks from Innovative Tuning he managed traffic in practice, prepped for the time attack session and came out on top in class setting a new CSCS Super Street AWD class track record. Not to be outdone, Mike McGinnis took the unlimited AWD class Project Voltron Subaru out and set a practice time close to the track record of Kimi Qin’s (2011 Shanghai Super Car Champion) heavily modified Mine’s R35 GT-R. Confident he could do better without traffic in the timed session, McGinnis laid down a first hot lap to break the overall track record before being held up by slower traffic the rest of the session, leaving room to knock the record down even further in the future.
